Samantha's Product Pick- Sexy Summer Polish

Essie Summer Collection 2011

Now that it is officially sandal season, it is important to keep your look tamed with the summer's most scorching nail polish colors. My top nail polish pick is Essie and whether you head to the salon or do-it-yourself in your living room, summer is all about vibrant and fun lacquers! This season, ditch your usual hues and go for a hot orange with a touch of shimmer, called Braziliant. Try it to see how much it will bring out your sun-kissed skin and how sexy it will make you feel! Many studies have shown that men love when women wear red nail polish. To catch you summer fling's eye on your next date, try Too Too Hot, a steamy, rich red with a slight hint of coral.

Samantha's Dating Thought-Romance at the Zoo

In an age when dinner and movie dates are the norm, it is hard to come up with fun date ideas to keep your relationship exciting. One of the best summer date ideas is spending a day at the zoo. You get to enjoy the warm, summer sun together while admiring and learning about all of the exotic animals you may have never seen. While the Bronx Zoo has a larger variety of animals to admire, the Central Park Zoo offers adult programs where you can eat breakfast with the birds and take photography and painting classes, all while spending time with your honey. Learning about new things with your date is a really great bonding experience so, plan ahead and enjoy all the activities the zoo has to offer!

Samantha's Summer Couple Pick- Will they sizzle or fizzle?

Pippa Middleton and George Percy

Pippa Middleton stepped into the spotlight when she became Maid of Honor to sister Kate Middleton during the royal wedding this past April. With an impeccable sense of style and underrated sexiness, Pippa has been dubbed "Her Royal Hotness." Pippa brought long time beau and at the time, finance, Alex Loudon, as her date to the wedding. Loudon, a corporate finance and development analyst for beer brewing company SABMiller, and Pippa reportedly split after the wedding because of Pippa's new high-profile lifestyle. However, she has been spotted with ex-college-boyfriend, George Percy, son of the Duke of Northumberland. Pippa and George were spotted in Madrid after the wedding and just this past week, she was seen leaving his apartment early one morning after a night out to dinner. So, is Pippa single or already back with a friendly ex? Could there be another (Dutch) royal wedding in the Middleton family's near future? What do you think? Will this relationship sizzle like it once did or fizzle out yet again?

Samantha's Dating Thought-Go "Outside" To Dinner

When it comes to cooking in the summer, it is all about the BBQ. What better way to spend time with your date than staying at home and having a BBQ of your own! Not only will you share plenty of laughs, you won't dig a hole in either of your pockets. Set up a table in your backyard and enjoy the beautiful summer night. Here is an easy and delicious balsamic barbecue steak or chicken recipe from one of my favorites, Giada De Laurentis. Afterward, snuggle up to watch the sunset while feeding each other a sexy and refreshing summer dessert like chocolate covered strawberries and bananas.

Samantha's Summer Couple Pick- Will they sizzle or fizzle?

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries

Kim sure has a thing for athletes! On May 18th, Kardashian's boyfriend of just a few months, New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries, got down on one knee and popped the big question. We all had already watched as Kim's on-again-off-again ex, running back Reggie Bush, finally ended their relationship for good on screen in Keeping Up with the Kardashians and all the heart ache she had suffered. Since then, we have watched Kim's quick flings with another football star, Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Miles Austin and also with security guard, Shengo Deane. Is Humphries finally the one? Has Kim FINALLY found love and gotten over her heart break from Reggie? What do you think? Will Kim's engagement finally sizzle or end with just another fizzle?

With an A-list cast composed of Kate Hudson, Ginnifer Goodwin, John Krasinski and sexy Colin Egglesfield, and a comedic plot filled with love, sex, secrets and betrayal, Something Borrowed is the perfect date movie to kick off your summer.

L'oreal Studio Secrets Smoothing Resurfacing Primer

"The secrets of the studio are finally out..." says L'oreal about their new line of Studio Secrets make-up products. From the line comes primers, foundations, eyeliners, eye shadows, lipstick and lip liners. My favorite product is the Smoothing Resurfacing Primer. It leaves my skin feeling velvety smooth and does a great job of making my skin look very even. And it is so easy to use! Just dip your finger in the jar for a dime-sized amount and rub onto your face prior to applying foundation. Immediately upon application, you will see the effects of the primer and just how soft your skin truly feels. Once foundation is applied, it will last all day, leaving you with smooth, clean coverage. For under $20, your skin will look and feel like you just got an expensive facial at the spa!

Romance in Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Have you ever thought about taking a romantic getaway to Playa del Carmen, Mexico?
I am a professional matchmaker and here's what I know...
The pros...
  • It is a straight shot flight from most major cities right into Cancun and then a quick 20 to 40 minute car ride to Playa.
  • Playa is full of hotels for all different types of vacations. Everything from family resorts to all inclusive properties to top notch resorts.
  • Several of the top notch resorts are located in an area called Mayakoba which is about 25 minutes from the Cancun airport.
Mayakoba is a self-contained gated community that encompasses three exclusive properties -- the Banyan Tree, the Fairmont and the Rosewood. If you are staying at one of the properties, you can eat at any of the restaurants at any of the hotels although they are all separately owned and charge the meal to your room, which is very convenient. We ate at all the properties and they all seem to offer top notch food and good service. Additionally, all the hotels share one stretch of beach, so you can walk from one resort to the next quite easily. And there is a top notch Greg Norman golf resort that runs through all the properties and guests from all the hotels have access to play.
As for choosing which Mayakoba property to stay in during your vacation, hands down, the Banyan Tree Mayakoba is the most romantic and extravagant of all the properties. The Banyan Tree spares no detail to make your stay as romantic as possible. They even have a "romance consultant" on staff that can help with every romantic desire. And Adriana, the Communications manager, is also quite helpful coordinating your every desire while you are at the resort.
Upon arrival at the Banyan Tree, the first romantic thing you notice is the open-air boat that sits at the lobby and will transport you to the Mayakoba beach.
The boat takes you on a 15 minute scenic tour of the mangroves within which the hotel is set and where you will actually see a variety of animals including crocodiles, monkeys, giant turtles and a variety of colorful birds. The ride to the beach is not to be missed, but is only necessary one time during your stay. After that, you can also get to the beach by riding one of the hotel's beach cruiser bicycles along the golf course straight to the beach. This was one of my favorite parts of our stay. You get exercise and the ride is beautiful through the property.
The Banyan Tree villas are set all throughout the mangroves on the property. This reminded me of the canals in Venice. Every room that is on the water is a full villa with its own pool. We had the Spa Pool Villa which was spectacular and had both a private swimming pool as well as a private hot tub. The pool at the villa is not a small lap-pool like most hotel villas, but instead it is actually a real full-sized pool. The most romantic part of the pool is that you can literally open the sliding door from your bedroom and dive into the pool in the buff. Another great perk of the villas at the hotel is that all of them have a separate structure for the living room which serves to enclose the villa on both sides, making it completely private and neighbor-free; it feels like you are in your own oasis.
Additionally, the Banyan Tree offers a "bath menu" which literally has over 10 romantic baths they can prepare for you and your sweetheart in your private outdoor bathtub under the stars. You let them know which special bath you want and when you return to the room, that bath is drawn with candles, romantic music etc, all under the stars.
Another romantic extravagance at the Banyan Tree is their two possibilities for private romantic meals. One is a privately prepared barbeque dinner served on the rooftop of your villa under the skylight. And the other is a private dinner served to you by candlelight as you are meandering through the mangroves in the evening on your private boat. Both options are unlike anything you have ever experienced at other resorts.
The Banyan Tree also has quite a spa, and one of their special not to be missed romantic offerings is their "Rainforest" which you experience as a couple. In bathing suits, the two of you go through 10 different hot and cold water and massage rituals that end in a very romantic hot tub room where the two of you can linger and languish together.
As for activities in and around Playa del Carmen, a great romantic activity to do with your honey is scuba diving in the "Cenotes." The Cenotes are famous in this part of the world and basically you scuba dive through caves deep on the bottom of the water. And the Cenotes are found in the oddest place -- they can be in a campground or a park and then all of a sudden there is a water hole in the ground which leads to a whole underwater maze. A great way to experience the Cenotes is to hire a private guide or go with a small group. The company we used was called Cenote Xperience with Nico the owner being most helpful. We had a lot of fun.
Another activity you don't want to miss is to take an afternoon or evening and go into the town of Playa del Carmen. The town is adorable and it's about 15 minutes from the hotels. There are blocks and blocks of pedestrian, no cars allowed, streets, tons of fun shopping -- trendy clothes, one of a kind pieces and even your typical Mexican outdoor market where bargaining for a good deal is the name of the game. And there are very reasonably priced restaurants along the main drag that are yummy and romantic as well. This is a great place to pick up your sweetheart a little trinket so she remembers this special trip.
The cons--
  • Playa del Carmen definitely has a mosquito season and if you are staying at a hotel where your room is on a mangrove, make sure you choose a non-mosquito month.
  • Playa del Carmen gets little unexpected rain showers like a tropical island, so don't be surprised if there is a torrential downpour and 40 minutes later bright sunshine.
  • The Banyan Tree hosts many romantic weddings. If all the pomp and circumstance will disturb your otherwise relaxing vacation, this might not be the place for you. However, if you are there with a special significant other and hoping that your nuptials are just around the corner, a hotel like this might just give you just opportunity to catch the bouquet or get your boyfriend in the mood to propose marriage.

Samantha's Romantic Restaurant pick- Cuisine in a Barn

Cucina

Sometimes it's nice to get out of the city and head to the country. Along the way, if you can find some top notch grub in a romantic setting, you need to make a pit-stop. Cucina is in Woodstock, that's right,  the town that is famous for hippy-dippies. Cucina presents it's food in a renovated farmhouse with exposed beams, and a rustic feel. And Cucina has yummy Italian food. They are famous for their pizzas, but I especially enjoyed their shrimp appetizer with white beans, tomato and rosemary. Yummy.

Samantha's Romantic travel tips- Head to Panama

When it comes to a romantic vacation, it's crucial to pick a place that has the right mix of hotels, fun activities and places for private time together. Panama is that kind of place.
I am a professional matchmaker and here's what I know about romance in Panama...
     1. Panama is a direct flight from many major US cities, which makes it a very desirable travel destination. Many of the major airlines fly there direct. Copa Air, part of the Continental family, is the official airline of the country and flies there many times a day.
      2. Panama City is a great vacation destination because you can literally experience city, beach and countryside/adventure all within 2 hours of the city center.
3.  If you want a city hotel with a killer romantic view of the Panama Bay, I found the Miramar hotel to be terrific; it is the best place to stay in the financial area of Panama. Make sure to ask for a room with a water view and for the Club floor so you can have access to the Club lounge and a private pool, which is never crowded. From the pool deck, you get a straight shot view of the Bay which truthfully rivals views in some of the best cities in the world.
4. If you want a City Hotel with a trendy feel, the recently opened ManRey is the choice for you.
The hotel looks like its straight out of Miami with every modern amenity known to man in the rooms. This hotel's location is on one of the party streets of Panama, Calle Uruguay, but the hotel makes up for that by creating faux gardens in the rooms so you feel like you are in a much more picturesque locale. Additionally, they have an over-the-top sexy rooftop pool with lots of bed-size loungers and comfy cabanas where you can have some private time.
5.  If you want more of a resort hotel still within Panama City properThe Playa Bonita Hotel is the perfect spot. You can get a room with a balcony that looks right out onto the water where you can actually see the lineup of the steamer ships waiting to go through the Panama Canal. Additionally they have an infinity pool that literally looks like it's pouring into the Canal itself. And their Lighthouse restaurant was delicious and very intimate for a couply dinner.
At this hotel don't forget to ask Alexander, the very knowledgeable  activities director to take you on a boat tour at sunset- this was the most romantic thing we did here because the panoramic view was so expansive that we almost got to touch the streamer ships lined up to go on the canal. Additionally make sure Alexander takes you out for a hike through the vast expansion of jungle around the hotels property which ends with kayaking. This is great couples activity in that the girl can wear a bikini and the guy can protect her from all the species in the jungle!
6. For historical activities. of course, the most important thing to see is the Panama Canal. Usually this is much more exciting for the male counterpart of any couple but once you get there, anyone male or female will be fascinated. In terms of how you visit the Canal, there are several ways to go depending upon just how enraptured you are. The most basic yet thorough way to do it is to go to the Miraflores Locks Visitor Center. You can get a yellow taxi to take you there for under $10 and then there is a $6 for an entrance fee. While you are there, you will get to see the locks opening and closing and real steamer ships go through the canal. The canal is in operation 24/7 but the Visitor Center closes at 4:30pm.
While there, you can take in an English speaking movie that gives you great history of the canal and they also have a museum. Even though this is a visitor center, it was still an excellent way to see the canal. If you need or want a more interactive visit to the Canal, they offer Partial transits. Keep in mind that regardless of what anyone tells you, these are only offered on Saturday and Sundays and in some months only on Sundays. With a partial transit, you are on a big boat for about 6 hours and you go through the canal, experience the locks and eat and drink a lot. It's a very cool experience but you need to want to use a full weekend day to do it.
7. Inside Panama City itself, there are several must do romantic things to doCasco Viejo, not to be confused with Panama Viejo is a gentrified old area of town where there are a lot of romantic and quaint restaurants on a few different squares. Don't be alarmed by the not yet modernized streets in this area; the area overall is very up and coming. In this area, you can check out La Scena, a quaint jazz bar on the square or Ego, a fun modern wine bar. Or if you just prefer a romantic stroll, have someone point out how you get onto the walkway along the edge of the water -- there are benches and stopping points along the walk and you can see all the modern buildings and lights of the city; it's a breathtaking view.
Additionally, in another part of town, you can head up to Ancon Hill -- this is the best view of the entire city and tres romantique. And make sure to take in the finance district where all the modern buildings are being built including a new Trump Tower. In this area, you can gamble all night long, if you so choose, with the most popular casino being the Royale Casino
8 . Panama has a lot of great restaurants with a broad selection of food types. I would highly recommend La Posta, one of Panama's most noted restaurants. It is located on Calle Uruguay and it cozy yet chic with very yummy food. Additionally there is Signature LT, part of the United States BLT family of restaurants where if you are homesick and jonzing for one of Laurent's popovers or the Tuna Tartare appetizer, you can have it there. Lastly, when you hit the Casco Viejo part of town, make sure to check out Mostaza restaurant which is very romantic with its dimmed lights and live singers performing nightly.
9. Panama has some of the best shopping in Latin America. If you didn't bring a gift with you for your sweetie or you want to buy him or her something extra, you will have no problem doing that in Panama. The Multiplaza is the designer mall and let me tell you, every major designer is represented there either in their designer department store that looks like Neiman Marcus or with their own free-standing boutique. You will find Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, among many others. There is also a more local Panamian mall called the Multicentro where you can pick up some fun Panama designer things, especially shoes and jewelry.
10. Your most romantic day in Panama will be when you venture out to the jungle and take in some real adventure activities. The best thing to do is to get in touch with a tour company like Panama Travel Corp and ask the very knowledgeable and English speaking owner, Leo to plan some wonderful adventure days for you. He will send you a private car and driver or an organize a group tour for you and take you everywhere you want to go. The guides are English-speaking and can provide you with quite a history lesson on Panama.

Then, keep in mind that nothing stirs up romance more than when your adrenaline goes into high gear at a place like Gatun Eco Adventures canopy zip line tours. Here you will fly through the jungle, and see Toucans or Howler monkeys on the Gatun Melia property. Gatun Eco Adventures claims to be the best company in all of Panama for the zip lines because their safety standards are higher than any other company yet they still provide a thrill-seeking adventure; they use 2 cable lines instead of one and for those of you who are bigger men, they claim the harnesses can carry an elephant! And the owners, Frank and Melissa will organize a whole day for you with a hike through the jungle, a boat cruise and lunch.
Then on the way back from the ziplines, I would recommend that you make a pitstop at Fort Lorenzo after you go through the Gatun Locks (the second most famous Locks in Panama). This is one of the most picturesque spots in all of Panama because it sits on the waters edge but is a manicured as a golf course; the whole effect makes you feel like you have been transported back in time.

Samantha's Event Pick- Hola Espana

Great Match- The Wines of Spain

Everybody loves a great wine tasting event but when you put hundreds of Spanish wines in a room coupled with yummy food tastings from some of the NY great restaurants, then you really have a superb event and some great matches. The Great Match- Wines of Spain did exactly that- over 200 wines from 74 different winemaking regions. Spanish wines are truly delicious and after my recent trip to Barcelona, I was happy to be sipping them once again. Some of my personal favorites at this event were the Campillo Gran Reserva 1994 from Rioja and the Mas d'en Gil from Priorat. As for foods, I loved the Gnocchi Bolognese from Osteria Paiolo in Brooklyn and the spiced Kobe beef from Megu.  Hola Espana!

Samantha's Dating Tip... Get people in your life to help you meet someone

Let everyone in your life know that you are single and interested in getting set-up.  If you don’t tell them they won’t think to do it.

A lot of people assume that if someone in their life (their friend, colleague or family member) knew someone great for them, they would just offer up the introduction. Unfortunately, this is just not the case because most people are very busy with their own lives and don't really spend time thinking about what is going on in yours. This doesn't mean
that they don't care about you, it just means that they just aren't spending the time thinking about who would be good for you.

And secondly, a lot of people will just assume that you have dates every night of the week because they think you are so great, therefore they wouldn't think that you "need" the date. You must explain to them that it isn't that you "need" the date, it's that you would "be interested" in meeting new people and to please keep an eye out. Once you are proactive, you will be pleasantly surprised and how helpful some people will become.

Samantha's Romantic Pick- Northern Spy Company, New York, NY

If you are looking for a new restaurant that is low key but excellent, this is the place for you. It's in an unassuming location in the East Village, way east. Its cozy and cute. The ingredients are fresh. The chef hails from San Francisco and is on his way to winning many an award. All the entrees are all under $17 and desserts are $6.  Don't forget to try the delectable heirloom tomato salad with feta cheese and mint, the succulent roasted chicken and their pork entry of the day. Perfect date place because you'll look like a foodie and you will leave spending less than $75 on the meal. Matchmaker in the Know: What women really want from a man they are dating

Have you ever wondered what a woman really wants from a man she is dating?
Here's what I know...
1. A woman wants a man to make her feel like a womanThis means that even if you are dating a powerhouse woman -- a CEO of a company, a notable woman or just a woman with a big and bossy personality -- she still wants to feel like the woman in the relationship with you being the man.
2. A woman wants a man to notice when she spent the time to look pretty. A lot of men think women pay attention to fashion, buy expensive shoes and spend time getting ready so that other women will notice. And yes, this is true but, at the same time, she actually cares more about dressing pretty for you, her guy. She needs you to notice and not just notice in your head but notice by telling her, out-loud and often.
3. In that same vein, a woman wants a man to compliment her and compliment her often. Women by nature are
a little insecure about their looks especially when they are living in a big city where people place a lot of emphasis on beauty. Even if you are dating a truly beautiful woman, a woman who gets hit on by men all the time or even a model, she still needs and wants to be complimented. She needs to hear out-loud from you that you notice her and admire her. And, chose words like "sexy" or "beautiful" or "amazing"; women like words like this because they arebigger and make it seem like you really are thinking they look incredible at that particular moment. Stay away from bland and generic compliments like "you look nice" or "you look fine." And one compliment that most women really don't like is "you look cute"; she is not a puppy, she is a woman.
4. A woman wants a man to not take her for granted. Women need to feel appreciated. This means that you need to remember to notice little things that she does- if she goes to the store and tries to buy you your favorite coffee or if she hauls a 6 pack of beer home for you in the rain. Keep in mind that even if she chose the wrong type of coffee or bought a beer that you really don't like, you still need to thank her and commend her effort; if you don't, she will think twice before making any more efforts for you in the future.
5. A woman wants to feel that you care about pleasing her in the bedroom. Everyone knows that it's much easier for a man to be pleasured than a woman, however sex is better if both people enjoy themselves. Even if you had a long day, it's still important that you reciprocate in the bedroom. And you need to keep in mind that not all women are the same when it comes to what they enjoy sexually. Just because your "signature move" got the last girl crazy, doesn't mean that it will even faze this girl. You need to try hard not to make her feel self conscious or guilty if it takes her a little time to have an orgasm or for the two of you to get your groove on together in the bedroom. You need to want to find out what makes this woman tick and then do whatever it takes to make her happy. She is working hard to please you (or at least she should be), so you need to do the same.
6. A woman wants to feel like you want to get to know her specifically and that you don't just group her into the "female gender." A lot of men think all women are the same but the fact is that all women are very different; they all have very different likes and dislikes and ideas. Just like not all men love football or play golf or drink beer, not all women just like to shop, gossip and watch soap-operas. If you are interested in a woman, you need to see her for who she is and who she is not and figure out how to be in a relationship with the particular woman not just any woman.
7. A woman wants you to understand her stuff -- her insecurities and her childhood issues and work hard to make her feel safe and good in those areas. A surefire way to make a relationship crash and burn is to exploit her weaknesses and use insecurities about which she confided in you against her. A woman needs to know that you heard her explain why something upsets her, puts her in a bad mood or makes her feel insecure in the relationship and that you will try your very best not to do things that bring up those issues for her. A good relationship means understanding your partners insecurities and doing what you can to make her feel good in that area of the relationship even if you might think that some of her stuff is crazy, unusual or immature. Keep in mind that you are not issue-free and you would want the same of her.
8. A woman wants you to communicate with her when you are in a bad mood and it has nothing to do with her. Of course, everyone is entitled to be in a bad mood once in awhile but keep in mind that when your bad mood comes out of left field and when you snap at your gal and nitpick her every move, this can make her feel like your issue is with her, not your boss or your father. A woman needs you to reassure her that your moodiness is not going to result in your breaking up with her. A woman will be happier if you reassure her and ask her for a night of space than if you see her anyway, sulk and snap at her and make her all paranoid about the relationship.
9. A woman wants to know that you are proud of her and happy for her to meet people in your life. A lot of men think that if he introduces a woman to his friends, his colleagues or his family, that the woman will automatically assume that the relationship is very serious and that they are three steps away from getting engaged. This is a falsity. Women look at introductions to people in your life as recognition that she too is part of your life and it makes sense for people in your life to know each other. If you make these sorts of introductions, the only way they become a big deal to the woman is if you make it be a big deal. Keep in mind that if you say, "I want you to meet my best friend John but you are the only woman I have ever introduced to him," then of course she is going to think that this is a big deal. However, if you just introduce her to John because he is your friend and she is your gal, it will just be normal. Normal is good.

Matchmaker in the Know: A Romantic Getaway in Santa Barbara

Have you been thinking about visiting Santa Barbara with your new beau or significant other for a romantic weekend away from home?

Here's what I know...

1. Santa Barbara is a highly accessible weekend destination. You can fly into Los Angeles, pick up a convertible and less than 90 minutes later you will arrive in splendid Santa Barbara.

2. If you are looking for a place to stay that is beach front and beautiful, choose the Four Seasons Biltmore. The property was fully renovated 5 years ago and they did an excellent job of maintaining the historic landmark while adding in a plenitude of modern amenities. They have a top-notch spa and gym and they give you access to one of the most exclusive beach clubs

in Santa Barbara, the Coral Beach club. The Coral Beach club is located directly in front of the hotel, has direct access to the beach, a great restaurant and a gigantic Olympic size racing lane swimming pool for all those preparing for a triathlon. Make sure to request a room at the hotel with a deck on the ground floor so you can soak in some sunshine at your room while you are sipping wine from their extensive list. And don't forget to check out the piano player in the Ty Lounge, off the Lobby, where you will see other couples like yourself having after dinner drinks and dancing the waltz and the fox trot; a perfect mood setter before you head back to your room.

3. Even though Napa Valley is the area of CA that people think of when there is mention of CA wines, Santa Barbara County has quite the wine selection as well. With over 100 vineyards in the region and over 21,000 acres, if you are a wine affectionato or just someone who likes to taste new wines, Santa Barbara is a great place to visit. You should get a map of all the vineyards from your hotel and pick a bunch that you want to go experience. A few great suggestions are places like Demetria where they encourage you to bring a picnic lunch and eat while you taste their wines. The setting at Demetria is quite breathtaking especially as you are driving up the long drive and take in the view of the 213 acres on the property. At Demetria, make sure to try the 2008 Viognier and the 2009 Grenache Rose. Additionally, Bridlewood is a lovely vineyard for romance. It is one of the more manicured vineyards in Santa Barbara, resembling a Napa Valley vineyard. Their tasting room on property is very modern and fully air conditioned which is key on the very hot days. Make sure to try their Syrah Dusty Trail wine.

4. While you are in the wine country, make sure to save time to explore the tiny little towns there like Los Olivos. In these towns, you will find many tasting rooms like one of my personal favorites, the Epiphany Cellars where the tasting was just $5 and they gave you 7 pours; don't miss their 2006 Petit Syrah, Rodney's Vineyard. Additionally, if you are a movie buff, you can hit a few places in this area that became famous in the 2004 hit movie, Sideways like Solvang. Solvang is set up as an authentic Danish town with all the trimmings and definitely worth the stop.

5. Before you leave the wine country, you must eat at the not to be missed, Hitching Post II also featured in Sideways. The Hitching Post II is a quintessential family style Steakhouse where the prices are very affordable, the portions are larger than large and things like the barbequed sautéed mushrooms and the grilled artichoke appetizers are not to be missed. (We couldn't stop eating the mushrooms!). Plus, the Angus Rib Chop is one of the best bone-in rib steaks you will ever have. You can choose one of their own wines, our favorite was the Pinot Noir Highlander. And try not to miss the Leroy Neiman-esque portrait hanging on the wall of very friendly owner, Frank Ostini

6. If you decide that you don't want to drive to wine country and prefer to stay local, don't miss the urban wine trail right in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. You can get a map and go from tasting room to tasting room, comparing and contrasting the different wines that they have you taste right on premises. Usually for just $10, they give you 6 to 8 different pours of their newest and finest wines and will explain to you what you are tasting. This is a perfect low cost prelude to a romantic bubble bath back at your hotel. A few tasting rooms I would recommend are the Santa Barbara Winery where you must try the 2007 Santa Rita Hills Reserve Chardonnay, and Oreana Tasting Room where they have a terrific Zinfandel, the 2006 Oreana Zinfandel - Sugar Mountain Vineyard.

7. Dining out in Santa Barbara can be quite the romantic experience. If you are there for a long weekend, spend one night finding romance under the stars, dining at the Stonehouse at the San Ysidro Ranch. It has a world renowned wine list, interesting and inventive appetizers like the Braised Short Rib Raviolis with Ricotta Salata, Spinach, Cipollini Onions, Organic Mushrooms, in a Chianti Cream Sauce and don't miss the dessert sampler so you can try their Belgium Chocolate Pot de Crème, Brown Butter Pecan Tart, as well as their Chocolate Lovers Banana Mascarpone Tart! Yum! Make sure to request a table out on the deck and ask to speak to the Sommelier who will help you pick the right wines to accompany your dining choices and he might even give you his own personal vineyard picks.

8. Spend a second night dining right in the town of Santa Barbara eating at Olio e Limone, one of the top Italian restaurants in Santa Barbara. The husband and wife owners are there every night making sure all their patrons are happy as they feast delectable dishes like Tagliolini del Campo (thin ribbon pasta, leeks, spinach, green beans and parmesan) or Scaloppine con Carciofi e Limone (thinly sliced veal cutlets with fresh artichoke hearts and lemon sauce) while sipping one of the local wines. And save time to go for a romantic stroll along State Street, the main street of Santa Barbara where you will find blocks and blocks kitschy one of a kind stores mixed in with some of the national chains.

9. Riding bicycles beachside along the Pacific Ocean in Santa Barbara is a great way to be outdoorsy, athletic and romantic at the same time. All over Santa Barbara you will find bicycle outfits where you both can rent beach cruisers to use for the day. However if you want to get some exercise while holding hands at the same time, you can rent a Surrey bike which looks like a car with pedals; you actually sit side by side and bicycle in tandem. This is a great photo opp that is fun and very romantic at the same time!

Enjoy!
